Handicrafts sector

This is with reference to the news story ‘Handicrafts Corporation fixes Rs. 14 crore sale targets for 2011’. While delivering keynote address Industries & Commerce Minister S. S. Salathia stressed upon adopting proactive marketing strategies to attract general as well as corporate customers in the handicrafts sector.  The need of the hour is to keep pace with innovative marketing and sales strategies by changing market scenario.  Kashmir Emporium has 19 outlets managed by sales men, managers, cashiers etc in different parts of the country. But it is known fact that it has become the tradition of the employees of these outlets to sell their own consignments and leaving aside the consignments procured by the Central Office of Emporium at Srinagar. The Minister has called upon for adopting strategy by introducing special discounts, but it needs to be made a reality. Regarding the golden handshake, that stands already introduced and is in practice of the corporation. Out of 150 sanctioned staff of employees, some 450 employees were working hence putting burden to exchequer. Now many employees have attained superannuation and many have opted for golden handshake. The need of the hour is that strict policy has to be adopted so that corruption is uprooted from the Emporium.
