The debate on the Charismatic Leadership is still reflecting writers’ bias against the leadership of Kashmir.  While representing someone in an article, one has to comprehend and contemplate a lot of things before making any claims. In Kashmir history no one can ignore people like Maulvi Abdullah, Sheikh Abdullah, Maulvi Abdul Rahim, Chaudry Ghulam Abbas, Ghulam Nabi Gilkar. They were the founders of the first political party of Kashmir which gave birth to a revolution at a time when a person below an annual income of Rs 400/- was not even considered to be fit for voting. Sheikh Abdullah may have his set of vices.  However ignoring him completely by saying that Kashmir has never seen a charismatic leader till date is not pragmatic. At least he had the ability to pull crowds, nowadays, even the crowds have to be organised. Land to the tiller is one of his best decisions which changed the whole demography of a Kashmir’s existence. Leaders can’t be produced in colleges, courts, unions or bazaars. A leader is born; he has the inbuilt ability to organise, manage, control and lead. We do not acknowledge leadership of any kind and that is the reason we get puppets.
