Srinagar emerges winner, beat Baramulla 5-1

U-17 INTER-DISTRICT FOOTBALL TOURNEY

Srinagar, Aug 21: The Under-17 Inter-District football championship concluded at Polo ground here on Sunday.
 Final match was played between district Srinagar and district Baramulla. Srinagar won match by 5 goals while as Baramulla team scored only one. An impressive Yoga presentation was held on the occasion in which large number of school children participated.
 Minister for Youth Services and Sports, R S. Chib was the chief guest on the occasion. Commissioner Secretary, Sports Bashir Ahmad Runiyal, Director Youth Services and Sports, S J. P. Singh, Deputy Director Sports Kashmir Nilofar, Deputy Director Central Ashok Kumar and Khalida Jabeen were present on the occasion.
 Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Youth Services and Sports congratulated the Srinagar team for winning the match and also appreciated the Baramulla team for playing with all vigour and energy. The Minister also encouraged other 300 participants for taking their part in 3-day tournament.
 He said that several districts of the state which included Jammu, Poonch, Rajouri, Doda, Kathua, Samba, Kishtwar, Ganderbal, Budgam, Bandipora, Shopian, Anantnag, Pulwama, Kupwara, and Baramulla took part in the state level tournament.
 The Minister announced that a national event of football would be held in Srinagar from 15th September this year.
 The function was also addressed by Commissioner/ Secretary B. A. Runiyal. He impressed upon the sports persons to take maximum advantage of the facilities being provided to them by their parents in respect of their studies and also the facilities being provided by the government in respect of sports infrastructure, play fields and other coaching facilities.
 He said that Football is the cheapest sport in comparison to cricket and that is the reason that football is most popular sport at global level. Runiyal asked the players to play with zeal and sportsmanship spirit so that their physical as well as mental health is built for living a peaceful and comfortable life. Director Sports also addressed the function. Eminent Footballers Nazir Khan, Abdul Hamid and Majid Kakroo also graced the occasion by their presence.
