Crusade against corruption
Will Kashmiris join this campaign?
DEBATE BY ADARSH AJIT
On 15th August 2011, Anna Hazari, the crusader against corruption, declared war against corruption as the second war of independence. Ironically a very efficient and respected minister of Congress government at the centre said that the government can not allow anyone to be on fast to commit suicide. Arrogance from the proved arrogant spokesperson of Congress termed Anna Hazari as the corrupt from top to toe.
Congress has ruled most of the time after independence. If it can boast of various achievements during its rule, it has to admit where has it brought the country. Today youth are on the roads against corruption. The movement of Anna Hazari has not remained the movement of Anna. But it has reached every home. It has become the public movement. It is not all at once. Life of a common man has become hell. Corruption has become the life style from birth to death.
There is a level of patience. When a patient man is irritated repeatedly and is hammered he bursts some time. Similar is the case of Annaís movement. Indians are fed up with the continued mis-governance and no action against the corruption. Politics has become the best money minting job without any responsibility towards the citizens. And this has irritated every Indian and thus Anna Movement has gained popularity. Injustice, different laws for different people, black money etc. have become the face of modern India. But most horrible are the faces of Congress spokespersons reflecting the arrogance or may be frustration in absence of their boss Mrs. Sonia Gandhi. Most pinching is that the present Congress has forgotten how the Congress of forties irrespective of caste, creed and colour has won the freedom for India.
It is saddening to see from the veteran Congress leaders justifying promulgation of 144 and telling that Anna did not comply and showed disobedience to 144. Again a Congress spokesperson said that going on fast is not the way to protest.
Congress leaders have forgotten that Mahatma Gandhi won freedom through non-violence and remained on fast for more that fortnights. They should also ponder that Mahatma Gandhi nonviolently led civil disobedience movement. Since independence many civil society members, different organizations and many towering personalities tried and worked for the removal of corruption from the country but the government was never honest in its endeavours or never tried to eradicate the corruption. Small pox vaccines and polio vaccines were repeatedly advertised by the government to eradicate the dreaded diseases from the country and they succeeded. Then what is the reason that the small pox of corruption on the face of India has never been taken care of. And this negligence on the part of government has proved the building up of strong public resentment against it. And the government may timely crush it as it lathi-charged innocent people owing allegiance to Baba Ramdev in New Delhi but this anger will go on multiplying. And one day power will succumb to the public pressure. It has happened. And it will happen.
Congress also alleges that because there is Parliament to make laws and hence Anna or Civil society members should not be allowed to destabilize the parliamentary institution. Because political parties through theirs MPs did not do what Indian populace wanted in last sixty years in the parliament that is why Anna and civil society members have all public to their support today. Mass movement evolved today is against looting India. Had you made the laws and acted against the corruption the ocean of public would not have been on the roads. But the big question is will Kashmiri Muslims be party of this anti corruption campaign?
