Agri team examines crop in district

Srinagar, Aug 22: A team of Joint Directorate of Agriculture Extension examined paddy and other kharief crops in district Pulwama.
The team said in some areas the crop is on the brink of its disaster and delay in rains or absence of assured irrigation can damage the crop partially or totally. However, the team headed by Joint Director, Agriculture Extension M S Katoo, which inspected large tracts of agri fields, observed that by and large there was no alarming situation with regard to the crop.
However, the field functionaries accompanying the team were advised to be vigilant as the present humid climatic conditions are congenial for the diseases like blast, sheath blight, brown spot and other diseases.
They were asked to make farming community aware about taking necessary steps wherever required.
Some areas of Kakapora sub division falling between Hajibal to Goripora, the team observed, were facing acute water scarcity since these villages fall on the banks of river Jehlum and the area is completely dependent on irrigation from river Jehlum in which the water level is receding.
“At present the crop in these areas is on the brink of its disaster and further delay in rains or absence of assured irrigation can damage the crop partially or totally,” it said.
The team also visited paddy seed village under variety K-448 at Hajibal.
The concerned In charge Officers were asked to go for spray of Hexacanzole or tricyclozle fungicide in view of the present situation.
The team was also accompanied by Chief Agriculture officer Pulwama, Sub Division Agriculture Officer Kakpora. The Chief Agriculture Officer Pulwama has purchased some fungicide for using it on the need basis.
