TENSION IN KARGIL

Kargil, Aug 22: Kargil witnessed massive police presence on Monday amid heightened tensions between two major religious institutions on Monday, the 21st day of Ramadan.
Differences between Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust (IKMT) and Islamiya School Kargil (ISK) on the issue of local Jamia Masjid threatened to snowball into a clash on the today. A mourning procession is carried out in the town on the day but the administration increased police presence in the wake of apprehensions of a clash between the two groups.
The Deputy Commissioner and SP took meetings with ISK and IKMT to ensure calm in the area after which the procession ended peacefully.
The people appreciated the role of administration, police and youth wings of ISK and IKMT in ensuring peace in the area.
