Rs 5.65 lakh realized from tax evader

Jammu, Aug 23: Sleuths of Vigilance and Inspection wing of Commercial Taxes on Tuesday imposed a penalty of Rs 5.65, lakh on a tax evader in Nai Basti area, sources said.
 They said that an input was received about a vehicle which had managed to enter the city without paying the requisite commercial tax.
 A team led by Inspector Rajeev Sharma, Arya Vir Singh Jamwal, Sub Inspector Surinder Singh Bagal, Bhopinder Singh, Umar Amin under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner, Commercial Taxes, Vigilance, started chasing the vehicle and finally intercepted it at Nai Basti.
 On its checking, sources said, the vehicle was found to be carrying medical goods valuing Rs 20. 93 lakh.
 Sources said that a penalty under section 69 (1) (0) of Rs 5, 65, 355 was realized from the tax evader under the Jammu and Kashmir VAT Act 2005.
 “The defaulter had failed to report at the Commercial Taxes check post in Jammu Airport, which is an office,” the sources informed.
