JAMA’AT CONCERNED OVER DISCOVERY OF UNMARKED GRAVES

Srinagar, Aug 26: Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir, at a meeting of its central advisory council held here today with its Ameer, Sheikh Muhammad Hassan in chair, expressed serious concern over the discovery of unmarked graves in which 2000 bodies are buried in the north Kashmir.
“The New Delhi media which at times make a mountain out of a mole totally ignored this brutality on the part of security agencies despite the fact that it is considered as one of the most important pillars of democracy. The role of New Delhi based media has always remained partial and biased towards the hapless people of J&K and they consider it as their duty to ignore the human rights violations being committed by the security forces upon the people of J&K only because they are demanding their basic right of self-determination also promised to them by the Government of India and endorsed by the Security Council of the United Nations. Not only the media, but even majority of the Institutions relating to the protection of human rights in India take very little care of state sponsored Human Rights violations in J&K. Thousands of people are missing here and their families and relatives are badly suffering from this trauma, but except a few individuals, no strong support is available to these victims from Indian Civil Society and so far no strong voice has been raised in favour of the suppressed victims from it,” said the Jama’at spokesman advocate Zahid Ali in a statement.
The spokesman said serious concern was also expressed over the frequent attacks by the security forces and the police on the journalists including the two photojournalists on August 19 in Srinagar resulting in serious injuries to both. “The attack on the journalists in order to forcibly stop them (photojournalists) performing their professional duty is an attack on the very roots of the democracy. Total solidarity and sympathy was expressed towards the suffering media in general and the two photo-journalists viz. Showkat Sofi and Narciso Contreras in particular in the meeting and strong legal action was demanded against the erring police officials,” he said.
