GK NEWS NETWORK
Jammu,Aug 2: The Government has given yet another extension to the term of the Cabinet Sub-Committee, constituted for examining the recommendations of Working Group on State-Centre relationship.
Though the third extension in a row, the cabinet sub committee is yet to meet even once, sources said adding that the government has made it clear that this time the extension of its term would be final and no further extension would be granted.
Official sources said that the term of the seven-member committee, headed by Finance Minister, has been extended for a further period of three months expiring on August 11, 2011.
The earlier extension of the committee, sources said, had expired about three months back but no extension was granted till date. “It seems that the government has finally realized that the term of the committee expired without any recommendation”, a senior officers in the state bureaucracy said.
The committee, which was constituted on October 11, 2010, was to file its report to the Cabinet within three months from the date of its constitution. However, the sub-committee, sources said, has not been able to meet and deliberate over the issue even when its first term expired in January this year. The term was later extended twice so as to enable to committee to discuss the matter.
The committee was constituted by the state Cabinet for examining the recommendations made in the report of Working Group–V, headed by late Justice Sagheer Ahmed on strengthening relations between the State and the Centre with a view to formulating response/comments of the State Government for further consideration and approval of the Government.
The committee comprised of Finance Minister as its chairman and Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats, Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Minister for Tourism and Culture, Minister for Industries and Commerce, Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture and Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution as members.
