Bill Papa denies involvement
Srinagar, Aug 29: Javaid Ahmad Munshi alias Bill Papa, who has been accused of killing the president of Jamiat-e-Ahli Hadith Jammu Kashmir, Moulana Showkat Ahmad Shah by the militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba in its report on December 26, has denied any involvement in the murder.
“The question is why should I kill Moulana Showkat? I have been a member of Jamiat-e-Ahli Hadith and not any office-bearer. I had no personal rivalry with Moulana Showkat. I was working with Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen till 1999. After this, I was continuously lodged in Tihar Jail and Srinagar jail till 2007. After my release, I remained confined to religious education and training. During this period I was arrested several times. I had no greed for any post in Jamiat. I do not understand why I am being accused of killing Moulana Showkat. The real killer is sitting somewhere and I am for no reason being implicating in the murder,” said Javid Ahmad Munshi, in a statement today.
Denying any association with Lashkar-e-Toiba, Munshi clarified that he was in the armed struggle only till 1999 and that too with Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen only. “I have never had any association with Lashkar-e-Toiba nor have I ever met any Lashkar commander,” he said, appealing All Parties Investigation Committee, non-governmental institutions, pro-freedom people and media to look into the situation arising from the killing of Moulana Showkat in a realistic way.
Munshi said killing of Moulana Showkat was the third jolt to Jamiat-e-Ahli Hadith. “First, its president Abdul Gani Dar was grievously injured in murderous attack, then its another president Prof. Muhammad Ramzan Bhat was shot dead and then its president Moulana Showkat was killed in bomb blast. All these incidents took place in mysterious way and no serious effort was put in to delve deep into these killings. As a result, the killers involved in these attacks could not be identified till date.”
“Moulana Showkat was killed on April 8, in a bomb blast. An All Parties Investigation Committee with Jamiat acting president Ghulam Rasool Malik as its head was constituted to look into this murder. The JKLF Front chairman, Muhammad Yaseen Malik played a vital role behind the curtain in the formation of this committee. The Committee was formed to give impression that it had no faith in the investigation conducted by the government. But later on the Committee head not only termed the police investigation as satisfactory, but also suggested to the police to widen further its compass of investigation. If at all the Investigation Committee had no professional experts and equipments to conduct the investigation, what was the fun of its formation?” said Munshi, adding “on the next day of Moulana’s killing, I was called by the police and since I was sincere I went to the police station. I was arrested. Then Police implicated me in this killing. During this time, Jamiat acting president Ghulam Rasool Malik and general secretary Abdul Rehman used to spend most of their time with police authorities.”
“Police has claimed that Javid Ahmad Munshi alias Bill Papa son of Ghulam Ahmad Munshi of Methan, Chanpora, has killed Moulana Showkat while in its report on August 26, Lashkar has declared Javid Ahmad son of Abdul Rehman Khan as the killer of Moulana Showkat. Is it not the responsibility of All Parties Investigation Committee to accept only one—either Bill Papa or Javid Ahmad son of Abdul Rehman as the killer?”
