Mamata, opposition discuss renaming of West Bengal
Kolkata, Aug 3: In a rare development, West Bengal's Trinamool Congress-led ruling alliance and the Communist-led opposition Wednesday came together at an all-party meeting here to discuss issues ranging from the renaming of the state to the reorganisation of districts.
"Today we had a discussion on various issues from the renaming of West Bengal to the reorganisation of districts. We had got a proposal regarding renaming of the state (and) we discussed it today," said Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee told reporters.
"I have told Industry Minister Partha Chatterjee to remain in touch with Leader of Opposition Surya Kanta Mishra in terms of proposals and discussions regarding renaming of the state. If they want, they can discuss it with experts also," Banerjee said.
"We have many proposals regarding reorganisation of four districts such as Jalpaiguri, Burdwan, West Midnapore and North 24-Paragnas. In this meeting, we got proposals for Murshidabad and South 24-Parganas also. We will again meet on Aug 19 and discuss the issue," she said.
Mishra said that they had a fruitful meeting and discussed several issues.
"Regarding the reorganisation various districts, we will give our opinion in the next meeting on Aug 19. We have told the government that various factors such as infrastructure and other things need to be addressed," said Mishra. IANS
