NPSU calls for social boycott of Jammu MPs, MLAs

Jammu, Aug 3: With agitation over the delay in making Jammu Central University functional gaining momentum, National Panthers Students Union (NPSU) on Wednesday called for “social boycott” of all MLAs and MPs of Jammu province who have remained silent on the issue.
The NPSU has also decided to present bangles to all MPs, ministers and MLAs representing Jammu province for their alleged criminal silence over the issue tomorrow and cautioned to intensify its agitation if immediate announcement regarding the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor (V-C) was not made.
“We appeal to the public of Jammu for social boycott of all ministers, MLAs and MPs of Jammu province who remained mum over the Central university issue. They have miserably failed to raise the voice of the Jammu people. Our activists will stage demonstrations at all district headquarters and present bangles to these leaders for their criminal silence,” NPSU incharge Pushvinder Singh Jamwal told Greater Kashmir.
Meanwhile, the relay-hunger strike launched by the NPSU and Jammu Province Peoples Forum (JPPF), an amalgam of several social, apolitical, trade and lawyers organisations, continued on tenth consecutive day.
National Panther Students Union (NPSU) is giving a new shape to the protest which is going in action from the past 35 consecutive day. To disclose the shape NPSU held a press conference at Jammu.
Four activists of NPSU including Abhay Sharma, Shivdev Singh, Darpan Partap Singh, Lovkesh Gondhi sat on day-long fast.
Similarly, JPPF activists comprising Rajinder Singh, president All J&K Sikh Progressive Front, Sukhdev Singh, Balbir Singh, Pritam Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Jaspal Singh Mangal, president Sikh Intellectual forum, Jagjit Singh, member Bharti Swabhiman Niyas of Pitanjali Yog Peth with its president Amrjit Singh, Muminder Singh, Hans Raj, Ashok Kumar, Pawan Singh and K.K Proch president Bharti Kissan Sabha and Satish Bharti resorted to hunger strike on tenth day.
Addressing the JPPF activists, renowned academician Prof Hari Om alleged that inordinate delay in the establishment of Central University and the appointment of its Vice Chancellor speaks volumes about the atmosphere of “discrimination” to which Jammu province has been subjected to over the years.
He said people of Jammu have struggled against this discrimination “relentlessly” and spearheaded many people’s agitations. He urged the Central Government to immediately fulfill the demand of Jammu for establishment of a Central University.
Besides, students of GGM Science College, SPMR College of Commerce, GDC Paloura, MAM PG College, GDC Samba, GDC Kathua, GDC Ramnagar, GDC Udhampur and Jammu University continued their protest against HRD ministry. They boycotted their classes and staged demonstrations demanding that the Central University should be made functional soon.
APPOINT V-C TO AVOID UNREST: CONGRESS:
Finally, the Congress as a unit broke its silence and urged the government to appoint the Vice Chancellor of Central University Jammu immediately to avoid any further agitation from the students and people of Jammu.
Congress leaders in their monthly meeting made a fervent appeal to the government to diffuse the simmering unrest over the central university and demanded for immediate appointment of the Vice-Chancellor (V-C).
They also urged the government for sanction arrears of Sixth pay commission in favour of government employees as there is great resentment among the employees.
The meeting was chaired by former MLA Om Chopra. Other agendas of the meeting were strengthening of the party at grass root level and to apprise the block and ward presidents and their office bearers to convene the meetings in their respective blocks and wards as they could be enable to organise the mohalla Committees and polling booth level committees.
CUJAC FLAYS JU V-C’S REMARKS:
Condemning the police cane charge on its activists, Central University Joint Action Committee (CUJAC) on Wednesday lashed out at the Vice Chancellor Jammu University Prof Varun Sahni for threatening students of strict action if they resorted to any kind of protests on the varsity campus.
The CUJAC leaders also demanded a thorough probe into the police cane-charge on “peaceful protestors” on Jammu University campus.
“The Jammu University administration has miserably failed to resolve the students’ issue and attempts are being made to suppress the voice of students who are raising their voice against the illegal appointment and nepotism in the varsity by the Vice Chancellor and Registrar,” CUJAC leader Sunil Sharma told reporters here.
Demanding immediate appointment of the V-C of Central University Jammu, the CUJAC leaders flayed Varun Sahni for “curbing” the agitation against the Central University of Jammu and said that students have every right to stage protests in democratic manner.
JWAM SEEKS PUBLIC SUPPORT FOR JAMMU BANDH:
Jammu West Assembly Movement (JWAM) staged a demonstration against the delay in appointing the V-C of Jammu Central University. It also intensified its campaign to muster support for the “Jammu bandh” on August 17 for early establishment of Central University of Jammu.
Led by JWAM president Sunil Dimple, the activists of the organisation also visited various localities of the west constituency, including Janipur, Rehari, Sarwal, Bakshi Nagar, Talab Tillo, Bhagwati Nagar and New Plot.
They also met the different traders, heads of various organisations, transport and trade unions and appealed them to support the Jammu bandh.
‘SUPPRESSING ACTIONS’ TO BE OPPOSED EQUALLY: JCUM
Taking strong note of the police cane charge on students at Jammu University, Jammu Central University Morcha (JCUM) castigated the university administration saying any attempt to “suppress and crush the popular sentiments” of Jammu especially the students would be opposed equally.
In an meeting of JCUM which was attended by Rajinder Jamwal, Virender Gupta and Uday Chand, Rampal Sharma, Kuldeep Chib, Sonu Sharma and R.R Raina, it was resolved to further accelerate the movement for establishment of the Jammu Central University.
They appealed the people and students to converge for the ultimate goal in the larger interest of the Jammu and its subjects especially the students and also exhorted them to be cautious, vigilant and consistent in their actions and reactions to thwart any misadventure on part of the administration.
