SMC starts demolition drive
Violation in upcoming library building razed down
GK CITY REPORTER
Srinagar, Aug 3: Claming that nobody would be spared for violation of building permission norms, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation has demolished a portion of the upcoming government library building near Pratap Park because it violated the building permission norms.
Officials said the moment Chief Khilafwarzi Officer of SMC, Hakim Aijaz came to know about the contravention, he informed the Commissioner Sheikh Mushtaq who issued orders for “demolition of the violation.”
In no time, bulldozers were rushed to the spot to bring down the violation in reinforced-concrete.
When contacted the SMC Commissioner said the corporation has started a drive to put a check on violation of building norms in the City.
“Nobody, irrespective of how big or small they may be, will be spared,” Mushtaq said.
“Our particular emphasis will be on the big sharks who are trying to come up with illegal structures,” he said.
The commissioner said anybody having a complaint about any illegal construction should drop in at the SMC office for redressal.
‘CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME’
The SMC Commissioner Sheikh Mushtaq formally applied for the reconstruction of his residential house window, which he wants to expand by a few feet into his lawns.
Sources said Mushtaq wanted to send a “strong signal to the corporation people that nobody should be allowed to go for any construction work without proper permission.”
“His endeavour of seeking permission for even a small piece of work will serve as a deterrent,” SMC officials said. Even though the permission has been granted, applicant Mushtaq is yet to undertake the work at his Hyderpora residence.
