'Jahangir Chowk- Soura road handed over to R&B'

Srinagar Aug 4: Following series of news reports by Greater Kashmir, the prestigious Rs 22.45 crore Jahangir Chowk- Safakadal-Ali Jan- Soura Road project has been handed over to Roads and Buildings (R&B) department for its speedy completion. The project was taken for execution by Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) earlier.
 This was disclosed Thursday by Advisor to Chief Minister Mubarak Gul while chairing a meeting of officers here, an official handout said.
 The meeting was informed that an amount of Rs 14 crore have been incurred on the project so far by the ERA. The balance works would be executed by R&B for its speedy construction.
 It was also given out in the meeting that one side of Nalamar Road from Nawakadal to Bohrikadal has been completed and thrown open for vehicular traffic. The work on the other side of the road is in progress at an estimated cost of Rs 90 lakhs which is expected to be completed in next 15 days.
 The meeting was informed that an amount of Rs 10 crore have been earmarked for compensation of land and houses required for widening of Circular Road passing through important areas of the city.
 It was stated that Shanglipora- Sangam Road has been taken under NABARD and up gradation work on it has started.  Gul said that from Tibiatian Colony to Saidapora, the footpaths would be converted into walkways for morning walkers. He said government has flagged road projects as priority concern, adding good communication as vital for economic growth and prosperity.
 Superintending Engineers R&B and ERA and other officers and engineers of various departments attended the meeting.
