2 infants die in GB Pant

MOAZUM MUHAMMAD

Srinagar, Aug 7: Death of two infants, at G B Pant hospital here, allegedly due to the negligence of doctors sparked violent protests in the hospital on Saturday night.
Witnesses told Greater Kashmir that two infants, Dawood Ahmad son of Ajaz Ahmad, of Safakadal and Safiya Bilal daughter of Bilal Ahmad of Beerwah were admitted in the Ward no. 3 and Ward no.5 of the hospital respectively on Saturday afternoon. “Doctors did not attend the one month old Dawood and 11-month old Safiya for more than three hours which led to their death,” witnesses alleged.
As the word about the death of infants spread attendants staged violent protests.
“They entered into an altercation with staff members and manhandled them,” witnesses added.
When contacted Medical Superintendent of G B Pant Dr Kaisar Ahmad said, “One of the patients died due to overfeeding while the other died due to Meningioma intracranial bleed,” he said.
He refuted the allegations of any negligence saying ‘both died natural death.’
