Gousiya Mohalla complains of ‘poor’ blacktopping
SYED IMRAN ALI HAMDANI
Srinagar, Aug 7: The residents of Gousia Mohalla Umar Colony(A) Lal Bazar in the City have accused the Roads and Building department officials of laying “sub-standard macadam” in the locality.
A delegation from the area told Greater Kashmir that: “Recently internal link roads were macadamized in the locality. But the thickness of the macadam is so less that in no time green grass protruded out of it.”
“Besides, the overall quality of the work done is so poor that recent rains washed away a portion of the macamdam.”
When contacted the Executive Engineer Right River Division circular road while refuting the public allegations said: “We laid 25 mm (1 inch) blacktopping on internal roads and left one feet spare on both sides for absorption of water.” “Otherwise the road could get damaged within 6 months,” he said.
He also said that people at times forced them to go for blacktopping upto the edges, which wasn’t “good for the macadam stability.”
