AFSPA, PSA root cause of HR abuses: Zaffar
Srinagar, Aug 8: Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement (JKSM), chairman, Zafar Akbar Bhat, has said the draconian laws like Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and Public Safety Act (PSA) were the root causes of ‘gross human rights violations and peoples’ tension’ in the state.
Addressing a public gathering at Chadoos, Ratnipora, in Pulwama, Zaffar urged the world community and international human rights organizations to take cognizance of the alleged human rights violations and continued detention of Hurriyat leaders. He paid rich tributes to the recently martyred youth, Shakoor Ahmad Teli, in the area, reiterating the pledge to continue struggle till the martyrs’ mission was taken to its logical end.
Zaffar strongly denounced the use of brute force against the peaceful protesters and journalists in Srinagar downtown city. He asked the Government of India to withdraw its troops from Kashmir and revoke black laws.
