KU to establish Kargil, Leh campuses soon
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, July 8: The University of Kashmir has identified 600 kanals of land in Khumbathang, Suru Valley in Kargil and 700 kanals of land in Taru Leh in the Ladakh region for establishing its Kargil and Leh campuses soon .
The development took place during the week long visit of the KU Vice -Chancellor Prof Talat Ahmad to Leh and Kargil districts, where in he interacted with top functionaries of the district administration, prominent members of the civil society to chalk out the road map for these mega KU projects.
“This decision has been taken with an aim of reaching out to people living in remote areas of the Ladakh division of our state and providing educational facilities to these communities for their socio-economic development,” said Prof Talat Ahmad.
He said that he would soon be visiting the Kupwara district in north Kashmir for identification of land for KU Kupwara campus also.
Pertinently, Kashmir University has already established its campuses in north and south Kashmir and is soon planning to establish campus at the Kupwara district as well.
Given the fact that Kashmir University is not able to enroll even 20 per cent of the students who apply every year for its various programmes the need for establishing satellite campuses has increased manifold. New market friendly programmes which are to come in these campuses can be boon for our student community.
