Srinagar, Dec 9: Violent clashes broke out between youth and forces today at several places in the Valley today against the statement of National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah on sale of liquor.
Scores of youth assembled at Gojwara, Hawal and its adjoining areas including Nowhatta and staged protests against Dr Farooq’s remarks on opening of liquor shops in the Valley.
However, police and paramilitary CRPF forces swung into action to disperse the agitating youth. The youth offered stiff resistance and pelted stone on security forces. However, the forces retaliated by firing teargas canisters.
Dr Farooq had advocated opening of cinemas and liquor shops in the Valley. Hurriyat Conference (G) had asked people to protest against Dr Farooq’s remarks after Friday prayers.
