Mess on Buch Pora –Ilahi Bagh road
I am forced to give vent to my feelings along with those of the (Srinagarittes) public who have been watching for last few days the messy workmanship of the pipe laying work from Buchpora to Ilahibagh by excavating the road centre to about 15 feet. depth with excavators.
The road cut is made without any consideration of likely damage to the waterpipes and telephone cables.
It would have been proper to cut the water mains manually, plug these and reconnect in a proper manner. Instead it was observed that the machine drags out the pipe along with the excavated material resulting into leakage of water, causing flooding of the trenches and the leakage was left unattended for days together.
Meanwhile the adjacent houses had to go without water for many days. To add fuel to fire, the sublet contractor, said that he is not under any obligation to reconnect the pipes and he is doing it on humanitarian grounds only. Besides it has been found that it is very difficult to relocate the cut pipes buried under the dumped material. None of the State Departments is owning the responsibility to restore the damages. Such a situation has never been faced by the people. If this project is to put people to inconvenience, without looking after their interests, it is not understood what is the fun of executing such projects, that makes the life of people hell in without speedy restoration.
