Beeru residents allege step motherly treatment
Demand creation of administrative Sub-division

Budgam, Dec 12: The inhabitants of Beeru in this Central Kashmir district are up in arms against the government for its failure to create an administrative sub-division in the area.
“From 1970, we have been appealing to the successive regimes to fulfill our demand, but they turned deaf ears to our repeated pleas,” the local told Greater Kashmir accusing the governments of step motherly treatment towards them.
“A Tehsil headquarter was created for Beeru in 1961 by the then Prime Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Bakshi Ghulam Muhammad, but till date there hasn’t been any other development in this area,” the locals said, adding “Even the Wazir Commission report which was submitted by the panel headed by Justice (Retd) Janki Nath Wazir in early 80s had recommended creation of sub-division for Beeru, but that recommendation was also not implemented by the successive Governments.”
“If a sub-division was created for Khansahib which was a mere Rural Development Block till 2004 and was given a Tehsil status in 2004, why couldn’t the Government elevate Beeru into a sub-division in spite of the fact that same was recommended by the Wazir Commission?” questioned a social worker, Mir Riffat Tanveer.
“Even cabinet has passed an order through SRO 583 in 1971 which called for creation of Sub-division in Beeru, but that order was also not implemented,” Tanveer added.
Locals alleged that the Sub Divisional Police Office (SDPO) was supposed to be established at Beeru. “However, the SDPO office was shifted to Magam, which is sheer injustice with the people of Beeru,” the residents added.
The residents also demanded establishment of the Court of Munsif Judicial Magistrate in Beeru. “The people from far flung areas of Beeru especially Arizal, Khag, Drang, Suthaharan have visit Magam for settling minor issues related to land disputes and other legal cases in the Court,” the residents added.
The locals urged the government to provide maternity facility in the sub-district hospital and also make the structure centrally heated.
The residents also demanded immediate repairs of Beeru–Budgam road via Chewdara, Beeru– Khag road via Lalpora and Beeru– Drang road via Kangripora.
They complained that the interiors roads in the area were also in pathetic conditions, which were causing immense hardships to the locals. “The power supply to the area is also erratic and we don’t have a separate feeder which could supply uninterrupted electricity to the local hospital and exchange,” Dr Assadullah told Greater Kashmir.
“This time, we are connected with Arizal feeder which fails to provide continuous power supply,” another resident Muhammad Ashraf said.
