Srinagar, Dec 13: A high level delegation of Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry met ambassador of Finland, Ms Terhi Hakala at Taj Vivanta, here on Monday.
The ambassador was accompanied by Juha Pyykko, Counsellor (Economic & Commercial) and Debashish Mazumdar, Director Development & Financial Services (Power Plants) of Wartisila Corporation of Finland.
The ambassador showed keen interest in establishment of joint projects in energy and power sector, forestry, infrastructure and water resources especially cleaning of the Dal Lake, the KCCI in a statement said.
The KCCI delegation was led by its Senior Vice President, Nazir A Wani.
Wani assured the Finnish delegation of chamber’s full co-operation in all ventures which according to him will prove beneficial for the economic development and progress of J&K State.
He impressed upon the Finnish delegation that all ideas of future investments in the State should be executed in Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.
Mazumdar gave a power point presentation to the KCCI delegation regarding the power deficit scenario in J&K. He impressed the need to bridge the gap between availability of power and its requirement with short and medium term measures supported by reliable distributed power generation system.
“Wartsila Corporation which manufacturers high efficiency, high flexibility gensets could be the ideal solution for the power deficit, particularly in view of the fact that a gas pipeline is set to reach Srinagar in next 2-4 years,” he said.
The KCCI delegation also requested the ambassador to facilitate the import of Kashmir Handicrafts to Finland by holding exhibitions and trade fairs which would enable “our exporters to showcase their products and as such open new avenues of employment generation in the State.”
The ambassador appreciated the efforts of the KCCI vis-à-vis the economic development of J&K and expressed desire to meet the KCCI delegation during her forthcoming visit to the Valley.
