KU condoles Dr Parbati’s demise
Srinagar, Dec 15: Kashmir University fraternity Thursday condoled the demise of renowned Urdu poet , Critic and academician Dr Fareed Parbati who passed away here on Wednesday evening. He was 50.
The KU VC Prof Talat Ahmad , accompanied by Registrar Kashmir University Prof Syed Fayaz , Dean academic affairs Prof A M Shah and other senior functionaries of the university visited the bereaved family and also attended the Nimazi Jinaza of the deceased.
Later in the day, the Vice -Chancellor also attended a condolence meeting called by Kashmir University Teachers Association(KUTA) at Ghandi Bhawan to express grief over the demise and solidarity and sympathies with the bereaved family.
President KUTA Prof Mohiddin Sangmi , besides many teachers spoke on the occasion and paid rich tributes to the deceased poet and academician. The VC on the occasion announced that KU will soon have a fellowship in his name at the Department of Urdu , which he said “will be a humble attempt to remember his services towards this language.”
Meanwhile Kashmir University Officers Association(KUOA) in a meeting chaired by its president Dr M S Sumbli has also condoled the demise .
Dr Fareed was presently working as Associate Professor in Iqbal Institute, University of Kashmir. He authored 14 books including eight poetic collections and six books on Urdu criticism.
He had done a pioneering work on “Urdu Rubiyat” and was awarded by a number of institutions including Academy of Art, Culture and Language. He was also associated with the department of Urdu and Academic staff college University of Kashmir as faculty.
