PU honours Vohra

Jammu, Dec 16: Jammu and Kashmir Governor, N N Vohra, was conferred with the degree of Doctor of Laws, Honoris Causa, by the Panjab University (PU) at its 61st Annual Convocation held at Chandigarh on Friday, an official spokesman said.
The Vice-President of India, Muhammad Hamid Ansari, who is the Chancellor of the University, presented a citation and conferred the degree of Doctor of Laws, Honoris Causa, upon Vohra, in recognition of his personal attainments, outstanding contribution, intellectual and professional accomplishments as a distinguished personality.
Prof R C Sobti, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh, reading the citation on this occasion said, “N N Vohra, an alumnus of the University, as a member of the Indian Administrative Service from the Punjab Cadre has held various responsible positions under the State and Central Governments from 1959 to 1994, edited several outstanding books and pursued a successful career in governance and security issues. He was conferred with Padama Vibhushan in 2007 and took over as Jammu and Kashmir Governor in 2008”.
Born in 1936, Vohra had topped the list in M A (English) at Panjab University and also served as Lecturer at Panjab University from 1957 to 1959. He was Visiting Fellow at Queen Elizabeth House, Oxford, U.K. during 1969-70. During his service career, Vohra served as Secretary Defence Production, Defence Secretary and the Union Home Secretary. Post-retirement he served as Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister (1997-98), as Director of the India International Centre, New Delhi, for over 8 years and was a Member of the First National Security Advisory Board.
