Bandipora mishap sparks protest against admin

Bandipora, Dec 17: At least nine persons were injured when a vehicle they were traveling in rolled into a gorge at main town here on Saturday.
Witnesses said the incident occurred when driver of the vehicle (JKO5C 1978) lost control over it due to slippery road at Sheikh Mohalla and rolled into the gorge injuring nine passengers traveling in it. Later two of the critically injured persons identified as Bashir Ahmed Mir and Firdous Ahmed were referred to a Srinagar Hospital
Soon after the incident, hundreds of people blocked the Arin-Bandipora road and staged protests against the local administration for allegedly failing to repair the leaking pipes. .
“Water from damaged pipes spills over the road and freezes making it the slippery and vulnerable to accidents. For past month about seven vehicles met with accident at the same spot. We have urged the PHE authorities to repair the damaged pipes, however the request met with deaf ears,” said Ghulam Muhammad a local
Officials confirmed that nine accidents have occurred at the spot in which at least 20 people were injured. Locals said that water pipes are also leaking at Nusoo, Nadihal, Garoora, Kaloosa and Madar make the road vulnerable to accidents.
Magistrate Bandipora Ghulam Muhammad Mir said the matter has been taken up with the higher authorities. “Remedial measures will be initiated soon,” Mir said.
