Kashmiri scholar wins award
Srinagar, Dec 1: A Phd scholar from Valley Thursday received the Kusumu Young Social Researcher’s Award (KYRA) 2010 in New Delhi for his paper on imprisonment of children in Kashmir. Javaid Rashid, who is pursuing his PhD in Social Sciences at Jawaharlal Nehru University New Delhi, won the Young Social Researcher’s Award in runners up category from the Kusumu Foundation The Foundation is affiliated with the Kusuma Trust UK and works closely with the Trust to implement its strategy in India. Rashid’s research paper titled ‘Torture and imprisonment: a study of incarcerated children in Kashmir’ was declared the runner-up of KYRA 2010. Rashid was presented with a cash award of Rs 1 lakh.
