'Omar diverting attention'
AFSPA Row
Srinagar, Dec 19: Accusing Omar Abdullah of discrediting Chief Minister’s chair, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Monday said the Chief Minster has been taking unwarranted cudgels with New Delhi on various issues thus making the revocation of controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) more complicated.
Talking to KNS, the PDP chief said, “PDP had taken up the revocation of AFSPA not only in the working groups set up by Prime Minster during UPA-1 but also in every international forum they attended.”
She said that even during the round table conference PDP had an argument with a leader over AFSPA after which Dr Farooq Abdullah asked them (PDP leaders) to withdraw the security. “After round table conference, I and Mufti sahib wrote to then Chief Minster Ghulam Nabi Azad for withdrawal of our security” Mehbooba claimed.
She said that it was her party which took up the issue on the floor of the Assembly. She however accused Omar of diverting the attention by taking unnecessary confrontations “When everybody was talking about AFSPA revocation, CM took up another unnecessary issue of CRPC.” Mehbooba said.
Accusing Chief Minster of rubbing shoulders with army commanders, Mehbooba said, “When he (Omar) does not shy away in sharing dinning table every week with army commanders, why should he (CM) not tell them about AFSPA revocation.” She blamed Omar for compromising the credibility of Chief Minster’s Chair.
