Kishtwar sub-jail to be upgraded: Agarwal

Jammu, Dec 19: Director General of Prisons Navin Agarwal today said Kishtwar sub-jail will be upgraded to accommodate more prisoners.
Agrawal made the remark on the conclusion of his 3-day tour of Doda and Kishtwar districts. An official communiqué said Aggrawal visited the Sub Jail Kishtwar which has a sanctioned capacity of only 20 inmates.
“But it has always remained over-crowded and is not able to cater to the requirement of even district Kishtwar, leave alone district Doda. A number of under-trials facing criminal charges in Kishtwar Courts have consequently been lodged in jails in Udhampur and Jammu, which impedes expeditious trial in certain cases,” it said.
Superintendent of Police Kishtwar Bhim Sen Tuti requested for suitable accommodation to all the under-trial prisoners of Kishtwar so that the process of justice is not delayed.
On the occasion Agarwal assured that the Sub Jail in Kishtwar would be shortly upgraded to the status of a district jail and its intake capacity would also be increased three times so that the prisoners face trail in the courts regularly.
Agarwal also visited the proposed spot for construction of new district jail Kishtwar. He also stated that land has been acquired in Bhadewah for another jail to cater to the requirements of district Doda.
