Muzaffarabad, Dec 23: Prime Minister of Pakistan administered Kashmir Chaudhry Abdul Majeed on Friday expressed his gratitude to the federal government functionaries, members of his own cabinet and the people of PaK for helping him fulfil his commitment regarding establishment of medical colleges in the region.
“In fact, our commitment to open medical colleges in our area was inspired by the vision of our great leader Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and today I feel honoured to realize it with the support of President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and other concerned dignitaries,” he told a press conference in his office.
A rally by the students of various state run schools was taken in thanksgiving for approval by Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) to establishment of two public sector medical colleges in Muzaffarabad and Mirpur, named after Mirwaiz Moulvi Muhammad Farooq and Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Shaheed, respectively.
The prime minister said he had been a supporter from 1985 onwards of establishment of a medical college in Muzaffarabad on priority basis.
“Its not a favour but a right of the people of Muzaffarabad which our government has given to them,” he said.
He particularly praised the finance and health ministers for making funds available and meeting other fundamental requirements “on a war footing.”
“I am glad that we have hired the best faculty for our colleges,” he said.
He told that the government had allocated seats for the students of all four provinces as well Gilgit-Baltistan, Jammu and Kashmir and overseas Kashmiris in the two colleges.
“We have reserved 10 each seats for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and overseas Kashmiris and 2 each for Jammu and Valley regions of other Kashmir,” he said.
“There will not be any quota of president, prime minister or minister in admissions,” he declared.
The prime minister also announced on the occasion that a women’s university would also be established in Muzaffarabad very shortly, and he would invite President Zardari or Prime Minister Gilani to perform its inauguration.
“It will be a full fledged university and I have detailed the ministers concerned to complete necessary groundwork at the earliest,” he said.
He recalled that in the past one district had been pitched against the other on the issue of medical college but he would promote atmosphere of harmony and brotherhood in PaK.
