Leopard who killed Don finally caught

M HYDERI

Srinagar, Dec 24: At a time when Shah Rukh Khan starrer Don 2 is all set to hit the silverscreeen and its typical one-liner “Don Ko Pakadna Mushkil he Nahin Naa Mumkin Bhi Hai” remains undisputed hit since Big-B played the blockbuster character in ‘70s,  the leopard who recently killed a Don in this City, was finally Saturday morning caught.
Since December 11, the City dwellers in this area were under constant fear of the wild animals when the leopard braved to sneak into the high security Gupkar and killed a pet dog named Don, in the neighbourhood of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah’s residence. Since then its whereabouts were not known while the wildlife authorities were looking for the beast.
Wildlife Warden Central Kashmir, Imtiaz Ahmed Lone while confirming the catch said the big cat was caught from residential area of Buchwara, Dalgate in the heels of Sulaiman Hills. Lone confirmed that it was the same leopard which killed the Don “because the pugmarks have matched with those found at Gupkar.”
The moment the wildlife authorities got to know about the presence of the leopard in the residential area, a team was rushed there while police party lead by Division Officer Nehru Park Police Post, Muhammad Shafi had a tough time keeping the enthusiast crowds away from the spot.
An official handout said the Animal Rescue team of Department of Wildlife Protection shot a tranquilizer into animal to make it unconscious till it was rushed to Dachigam National Park and set free.
“It was one of the shortest trapping operations executed by our rescue team headed by Shamus-ud-din Nishati, Range Officer Dachigam,” the official handout said.
The presence of leopard in the high security area, which apart from other top-brass, houses residential apartment of IGP Kashmir Shiv Murari Sahai, had been obviously giving sleepless nights to the security agencies on vigil.
Incidentally, the Don was killed on the evening when state’s Law Minister Ali Muhammad Sagar was targeted by militants in his native old City.
Don, a Bakarwali pet at the 4-Gupkar residence of a medico, Dr Niyaz Ahmed Jan was found dead in his lawns moments after the master spotted the leopard climbing the wall to escape.
Since then the leopard was in the news for killing Don, a name more famous in the country because of Bollywood character, who till date remains unmistakably at large to strengthen the popular dialogue: Don Ko Pakadna Mushkil he Nahin Naa Mumkin  Bhi Hai.
This comes despite the fictional fact that Don is still wanted by police of no less than 11 countries. But in Kashmir, Don was killed in reality by a leopard in the high security area, which is under constant police vigil.
