GK NEWS NETWORK

Srinagar, Dec 27: Consumers be-aware! The next time you buy a product, which has a new price tag labelled on it hiding the original one, don’t pay any extra money in the garb of what sellers allegedly plead as “price hike”.
This was revealed by the officials of Legal Metrology department Tuesday  after booking some offenders.
An official handout said the Field Executives of Legal Metrology department under the supervision of  Deputy Controller(Enforcement) conducted inspection of different markets of Srinagar and booked several erring traders for indulging in the unfair trade practices.
“In an instance at a petrol pump station, lubricants/Mobile tins were offered for sale of which some were without label of MRP(Max Retail Price) and on some of which MRP was smudged. The pump station pleaded the innocence as they have received the supply from the distributor in the same manner,” the officials said adding “further enquiry revealed that the distributor was responsible for the unfair trade practice.”
“Altering MRP or smudging it is a serious offence under Weights and Measures laws,” the officials said.
The Inspector, Legal Metrology Circle-1 Manzoor Ahamad registered the challan against the Manager of the firm under Standards of Weights and Measures(Packaged Commodities Rules). The Dy Controller imposed a fine of  Rs 5000  against the defaulter.
