Srinagar freezes at minus 4.7 degrees
Srinagar: The cold wave in Jammu and Kashmir continued unabated on Tuesday with minimum temperature in the Valley and other parts hovering many degrees below the freezing point. Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of minus 4.7 degrees Celsius, an increase of 0.2 degrees from yesterday when the city recorded the coldest night of this winter at minus 4.9 degrees Celsius, a MeT official said.
Small stagnant water bodies and road potholes in the city were covered with a layer of ice. Residents in many parts of the city were seen burning fire around frozen water supply lines.
The remote Leh district of Ladakh region recorded minus 14.4 deg C, the official said. Kargil district recorded a low of minus 12.8 deg C, a increase of 1.6 degrees compared to yesterday, he said. Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 8.4 deg C, while it was minus 7.6 deg C in Pahalgam and minus 5.4 deg C in Qazigund. Kupwara district in north Kashmir recorded a minimum of minus 4.4 deg C.
