CCTV footage helps police nab burglar

Stolen drugs worth Rs 5 lakh recovered from cop’s son

ADIL BASHIR

Srinagar, Dec 28: With the help of CCTV, which captured the entire episode of robbery last night at a pharmaceutical firm in Karan Nagar area, the police Wednesday arrested the accused Ajaz Ahmad alias Bobby son of Habib Ullah Khan, a cop putting up at Police Colony, Bemina. Stolen medicines worth Rs five lakh were recovered from a load carrier from the lawns of his residential premises, police said.
The CCTV footage shows a well dressed man walking polity at the pharmaceutical agency at midnight and selecting some specific boxes to pack them in a big carton. Police narrates the story, like this.
“We rushed to the spot immediately after the company members informed us about the theft this morning. We checked the entire footage of the incident, which the CCTV had captured and one of our officers recognized the thief as Ajaz of Police Colony, Bemina,” Basharat Ali Wani, Station House Officer (SHO), Karan Nagar Police Station told Greater Kashmir.
“Within no time we rushed to Ajaz’s residence and found the load carrier laden with stolen drugs in the lawn of the house,” he added.
“We seized the load carrier and began searching the building to nab Ajaz but he couldn’t be traced,” the SHO added.
“We then enquired about him from his mother and she told us that he is not present in the house. In the meantime we heard some noise from the backyard of the building and rushed there to find Ajaz lying on the ground with some locals around him saying he jumped from the third-storey of the building,” the police official added.
Ajaz was arrested but rushed to SMHS Hospital for treatment.
“The doctors examined him to ensure whether he is out of danger or not. All the tests were normal and then he was shifted to Bones and Joints hospital for some more tests which were also clear. Then we arrested Ajaz and filed an FIR no 90/2011 under section 457 380 RPC,” the SHO explained.
Talking to Greater Kashmir, the Superintendent of Police (SP) south City, Suleiman Choudhary said: “We are at the job and interrogation is on and more recoveries are expected including arrest of other persons involved in the crime.”
Pertinently, almost a month ago, police solved a case of burglary in which batteries worth rupees one lakh were stolen from the same compound which houses the pharmaceutical company targeted last night.
Police had registered FIR No 85/2011 under section 457 380 RPC and arrested the burglars and recovered stolen batteries from them.
Meanwhile Ajaz’s father, as per police, works as a Tailor at Police Control Room (PCR).
