Jammu, Dec 2: Jammu and Kashmir Assembly panel today asked the State Forest Corporation (SFC) and Forest department to constitute a special committee to re-investigate cases of forest fires in the Doda division.
The Committee on Public Undertakings of Legislative Assembly, which met here under the chairmanship of MLA Rafi Ahmad Mir, asked officials to submit reports in a time-bound manner and also called for fixing responsibilities in case of any negligence, an official spokesman said.
The committee reviewed the action report on observations of CAG’s audit apart from functioning of the SFC. It also stressed for speedy marking, extraction and transportation of timber.
Legislators, M Y Taing, Kafil-ur-Rehman, Jugal Kishore, Irfan Ahmad Shah, Advocate Abdul Haq, Charanjit Singh, Aijaz Ahmad Jan, Feroz Ahmad Khan, Ch. Zulfkar Ali and Muhammad Amin Bhat gave their suggestions to make SFC more viable and profitable.
The Committee stressed on speeding up marking, extraction of timber and its transportation. The Members also asked the concerned officers of Forest department to use services of excess staff of SFC to man CAMPA etc.
The Committee discussed various audit paras and in some cases it sought more information from the department to convince the committee so that the same could be dropped. About audit para shortfall in outturn 2006-07, the Committee got satisfied with the reply and dropped it.
Among others, Principal Accountant General, J&K Venkatish Mohan, Commissioner/Secretary, Forest and Environment Shant Manu, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest RD Tiwari, Director General Accounts and Treasuries Wali Muhammad Bhat, Managing Director, SFC Abhay Kumar and other concerned officers of SFC, forest and Assembly Secretariat attended the meeting.
