Woman held with brown sugar: Police

Srinagar, Dec 30: Police Friday claimed to have arrested a wanted woman drug peddler, from Hawal Chowk in Shah-e-Khaas and recovered 400 grams of brown sugar worth around Rs five lakh from her possession.
Officials said Hameeda, 42, a City dweller was nabbed by police after laying a trap.
“Hameeda had been evading the arrest for quite sometime and we were searching for her like anything by conducting raids wherever we got inputs for her presence,” police said.
It said the woman had been actively involved in drug trade for many years and had earned notoriety in her native area.
“She has been running the trade cunningly,” officials said adding her modus-operandi was so tricky that she always evaded arrest. Sources said that Hameeda’s husband, Fayaz Ahmad was also a drug addict and a peddler, and was also wanted by police. Fayaz has also been arrested in a separate raid and the duo is now in police custody, they said.
Confirming the arrests, Superintendent of Police (Hazratbal), Abdul Waheed told Greater Kashmir that Hameeda along with her husband was in police custody. “She has been actively involved in the drug trade and police was looking for her,” Waheed said and termed the arrested as a huge success in police’s campaign against the drug trade in the City.
3 caught with liquor bottles
MEANWHILE in a separate development police on Friday arrested three persons and recovered 32 bottles of liquor from their possession from Shahr-e-Khaas.
Sub Divisional Police Officer, Nowhatta, Tahir Saleem Khan said police arrested three persons Mukthar Ahmad, Zahoor Ahmad and Shabir Ahmad along with bottles of liquor.
“They are involved in selling liquor to the youth,” he said.
