International Mountain Day to be celebrated in Kashmir
Srinagar Dec 6: Coinciding with the announcement of United Nations General Assembly which has announced December 11 as the “International Mountain Day” J&K Ski Mountaineering Association in collaboration with Tourism Department and Adventure Tour Operators Association of Kashmir has decided to celebrate the day in the Valley also.
The Day is celebrated every year with a different theme coherent to consistent mountain development. This year‘s theme is “Mountains and Forests.”
Different programs will be conducted all over the world on this day, which would help in preservation of mountains, environment, forests, wildlife, ecology, mountain people, adventure tourism, Himalayan culture heritage and adventure sports.
The association will hold a seminar at Nigeen Club here where speakers will enlighten on various aspects of mountain life, mountain sports, mountain ecology, mountain biodiversity, forests, and adventure tourism etc.
In order to increase awareness about the significance of mountains and forests and to establish partnerships that will enable bring positive surge in the world of mountains the JKSMA will be organizing a mass symbolic trek from Dhara to Faqeer Gujree with community participation on December 10. The trek would also aim at community participation in conservation education and understand of mountain ecology. The trekking will include a session of Tree Talk, Save Hangul, Save Cultural Heritage and Save Forests, en-route to create awareness and concern of conservation of natural resources amongst the participating trekkers and local community. The trekking team will be flagged off at TRC, Srinagar by Director Tourism Farooq Ahmad Shah.
