From top
This refers to the front-page news in Greater Kashmir titled “Don’t act like Mahatama’s monkeys: Omar tells bureaucrats.” It must have been an embarrassing moment for the bureaucrats when Omar called them as monkeys. The fact remains that bureaucrats are watching instances of corruption as mute spectators. Omar must get down to the bottom of the issue. The truth is that it begins from top and then trickles down to the bottom. Corruption has to be therefore eradiated at the top first. The officials who have been so far found guilty of resorting to corrupt practices must be punished severely. The problem in Jammu and Kashmir is that such officers go unpunished. This leads to more corruption. There has to be some deterrent to corruption. The state government must also strengthen the anti-corruption bodies like State Vigilance Organization and the State Accountability Commission. Let there be no compromise on the issue. That is the only way we can fight it out, if we really mean it.
