KU to commemorate World Cancer Day

Srinagar, Jan 31: On World Cancer Day, Kashmir University will host a daylong symposium on  Esophageal Cancer - A Major Health Concern In Kashmir.
 A KU handout said the event would be organized by the department of Bio Chemistry on February 4.
 “Esophageal Cancer (EC) is the eighth most common cancer worldwide and every sixth cancer death is from this type of cancer,” it added. 
 “Almost every third cancer patient has GI tract malignancy in Kashmir. Out of 8056 cancer cases registered at Regional Cancer Centre, SKIMS in the last three years (2008 to 2011), 1217 (15%)  were EC patients,” said the Organizing Secretary,  Dr Nazir Ahmad Dar who is Assistant professor with the department of Bio Chemistry.
