JK declares 2011 as Adventure Tourism Year

Srinagar, Feb 10: The J&K Government has declared 2011 as Adventure Tourism Year to attract tourists to the Himalayan State.
During the 2-day Travel Mart which concluded today, the J & K Tourism Department showcased the culture and tourist places of the State in the Gujarat Travel Mart. The Tourism Department participated as a “Theme State” in the Travel Mart which was held at Ahmedabad.
On the occasion, the Minister for Tourism, Nawang Rigzin Jora underlined the possibilities of various segments of tourism and the steps being taken by the Government to tap the potential, an official statement said. He made of special mention of the potential of Adventure Tourism in the State, particularly in Ladakh.
“The Ladakh has emerged as the adventure capital of India. I declared that 2011 would be observed by the J&K Tourism Department as the Adventure Tourism year. The Government would organise many adventure-related activities and also publicize it vigorously,” Jora said.
The J & K stall was visited by a wide variety of people connected with the Tourism Industry who expressed desire team up with the private tourism players of the State.
