Monitor welfare schemes for disabled: Guv
Jammu, Feb 11: The Governor, N N Vohra today said implementation of programmes and policies for the welfare of physically challenged persons in J&K should be constantly monitored and reviewed.
“These should be monitored in close coordination with each of the other concerned departments like Education, Health and Rural Development,” Vohra said during a meeting with Social Welfare Minister, Sakina Itoo here.
He emphasized the need for ensuring special focus on the healthcare and education of the physically challenged.
Itoo told Governor, that the Social Welfare Department would soon be forwarding a comprehensive proposal to the Government of India for securing funding for undertaking a survey of all physically challenged persons in the J&K so that targeted intervention programmes could be planned and implemented in coordination with the other concerned departments.
She said the survey was being contemplated to be conducted by the Anganwari workers who would be specially trained for this purpose by the resource persons of the Composite Regional Centre, Srinagar along with the Health Department.
Sakina informed the Governor about the awaited release of the Central share towards the honorarium payable to the Anganwari workers in the State and also briefed him about various other measures which are planned for securing the larger welfare of the differently abled persons in J&K.
