JK PDS corrupt: Tarigami
Srinagar, Feb 13: Questioning the working of Public Distribution System in J&K, CPI (M) State secretary and MLA Kulgam, M Y Tarigami, today alleged that the system was too corrupt and there were instances of pilferages and bungling.
“Such a trend of malpractices was causing scarcities, black-marketing, hoarding and profiteering, thereby telling upon the economies of the common man,” Tarigami said in a statement.
“A substantial number of families having left unregistered with CA&PD are forced to procure the ration from open market at un-affordable prices,” he said and urged the Government to clean the PDS from ‘malpractices’ and make it consumer friendly by carrying its overhauling from top to bottom.
Anguished over the shortage of essentials in Valley, Tarigami said the peoples concerns were being ‘ignored’ and PDS had become defunct.
He said the government was not in a mood to infuse responsiveness and accountability in its machinery to solve the peoples’ problems.
Tarigami also urged the government to take immediate measures for arranging required stocks of ration from the Centre to benefit the uncovered population under PDS by projecting the food requirements of the population that had increased since 2001 census in the State.
