Panchayat polls to empower people at grassroots : Rana

Jammu, Feb 13: Chief Minister’s Political Advisor, Devender Singh Rana, today said the government’s decision to setup a three-tier Panchayati Raj and hold Panchayat polls was a move to empower the people at grassroots and start a new chapter in the participative governance and empowerment in the State.
Addressing public at Dami Nagrota, he said, “This is a milestone and Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has shown great vision by taking this bold initiative.”
Rana said this would not only help in decentralization of powers, but also ensure area specific local development across the State and would give new dimensions to the development of villages in different sectors.
He said there was a reservation for women candidates in Panchayat elections. Rana called upon the women folk to not only come in large number for casting votes, but also take active part in the elections.
