Peoples’ aspirations triumphed: Mirwaiz
Srinagar, Feb 13: Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has welcomed the stepping down of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, saying it proved that aspiration of people cannot be suppressed for long by use of "brute force."
"We welcome the stepping down of Hosni Mubarak as the President of Egypt, bowing to the wishes and demands of the people. It has proved that peoples’ aspirations cannot be suppressed for too long by using brute force," he said in a statement today.
Mirwaiz said history stood testimony to the fact that dictators and autocratic rulers may have temporarily succeeded in "muzzling the peoples voice but in the long run, they have had to bow before the masses."
Lauding the Egyptian Army for exercising restraint while dealing with protesters, Mirwaiz alleged that in Kashmir "whenever people have demanded their rights and voiced just demands, the barrels of guns have been opened on them."
