Theft of dressed stone in City hub, police sleeps
GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, Feb 13: Unbelievable but true. Thieves have struck under the watchful eyes of the police right in the City centre. This time to decamp with dressed stones which are mostly used for landscaping.
If the Road and Buildings (R&B) Department officials are to be believed, the thieves have decamped with costly dressed Devri stones which were fixed on turns at Banquet Hall and Budshah Chowk.
Ironically, these two places remain guarded round-the-clock by the police and paramilitary forces.
“If theft can take place at such a busy and heavily guarded places, we can only imagine the situation in other parts of the City. The dressed stones were fixed three months ago at the turns as part of beautification drive. The matter should be thoroughly probed and the accused brought to book at the earliest,” said an official of R&B Department wishing anonymity.
Pertinently even as burglary cases are on rise in the summer capital, the police has failed to put a check on the crime.
