HC issues notice to Govt on writ by Alam

QUASHES PSA OF 4-DETAINEES

Srinagar, Feb 14: The Jammu and Kashmir High Court Monday issued notice to state government on Masrat Alam, directing it to file objections within two-weeks on a writ petition filed by the Muslim League chairman against his detention under Public Safety Act.
Official sources said that the writ petition filed by the Masrat Alam through his counsel advocate Muhammad Ashraf Wani came up for the hearing before Justice Jai  Pal  Singh. After perusal of the petition, they said, court directed respondents—state government—to file objections within 2-weeks.
Pertinently Masrat Alam Bhat, who spearheaded the “Quit Kashmir Movement” in 2010  was arrested by police during a raid near Telbal on city outskirts on October 18 last year.
After thorough interrogation by police for several days, Masrat Alam Bhat was booked under PSA and lodged in Jammu Jail.
The court also issued notice to the state in PSA detentions of four other youths including Javaid Ahmad Najjar, Reyaz Ahmad Dar, Muhammad Yaseen Dar and Sajjad Ahmad, sources said.
Meanwhile, Justice Muhammad Yaqoob Mir quashed detention under PSA against three persons and directed for their release.
Official sources said that the persons against whom PSA orders were revoked include Reyaz Ahmad Bhat, Muhammad Maqbool Sheikh, Muhammad Yousuf Khan and Obaid Shafi Ganie. (PBI)
