Div Com for start of dog sterilization
Srinagar, Feb 19: Divisional Commissioner, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon on Saturday visited Animal Aid Centre, Tengpora, where he was informed that the facility was equipped with 13 concrete dog kennels and 68 wooden kennels. He asked the SMC to start sterilization of male dogs.
“It has 2 examination tables with one surgical set, catching rods and nets and post operative care room,” the handout said.
The Divisional Commissioner was accompanied by Commissioner, SMC Sheikh Mushtaq Ahmed, Addl Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar Mohammed Akbar Ganai, Health Officer, SMC Dr Reyaz Ahmed, OSD with Divisional Commissioner, Aamir Ali, Chiarman SPCA, Dr Gulzar Ahmed Nehvi and Dr Gowhar Nabi Gora.
“Dr Samoon instructed SMC to immediately start the sterilisation of the male dogs and in case any financial support SMC can approach Animal Welfare Board,” the handout added.
“The Divisional Commissioner was further informed that SMC will organise their own resources to start the process.”
On this occasion, the Commissioner SMC said that “as soon as their staff is trained in catching the dogs, the sterilization process would start by next week”.
“It was also informed that SMC has placed orders for a hydraulic animal catching vehicle and funds to the tune of Rs 14 lakhs are available for the same.”
