DAA issue

This refers to the news “State Govt to decide on DAA revocation: Omar.” We have been hearing this rhetoric for the past many months now. Sometimes we are told that the Disturbed Areas Act is being reviewed and sometimes we are misled under the garb of security concerns. No serious effort is made to revoke the controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act, though the state claims that it had no differences with the centre over the issue. But when things remain unchanged on ground, it makes it clear that either New Delhi doesn’t want the Act to go or the state government has no say in such matters. It is high time to revoke all such Acts so that people are allowed to breathe freely, at least.
