Detainees ill-treated in Kot Bhalwal: JKPM
Jammu, Feb 22: J&K People’s Movement today accused the authorities at Kot Bhalwal Jail of mistreating the political prisoners.
“The jail has been turned into a torture centre and the officials are using every tactic to harass and humiliate the detainees,” the inmates told the visiting JKPM members.
In a statement, the members said, the health of several Hurriyat leaders including High Court Bar Association president, Mian Abdul Qayoom, General Secretary, Ghulam Nabi Shaheen, Muslim League Chairman, Masrat Alam and several others was continuously deteriorating. “They were denied proper medical facilities,” the members said and urged the international human rights organizations to pressurize the Government of India to adopt a humane approach towards the political prisoners.
Meanwhile, party chairman, Ghulam Ahmed Mir has said, the statements made by the Home Secretary G K Pillai, Defence Minister, A K Antony and GoC 15 Corps, Lt Gen. S A Hasnain were “nothing more than a bundle of contradictions.” “It seems that there is no uniform approach in the different quarters about the Kashmir,” he added.
