Government to provide jobs to outstanding sportspersons: Chib
Jammu, Feb 23: Jammu and Kashmir is all set to host four day 17th senior men and women, eight Master men and third Incline Bench Press National championship from March 21 at indoor complex of MA Stadium, here and is being organized by Jammu & Kashmir Strength Lifting Association.
The Minister for Medical Education, Youth Services and Sports Professor RS Chib told reporters at a press conference here today.
Prof. Chib said that keeping in view of the performance of the athletes in this stream of the state at national and international events over the years, the Indian Strength Lifting Federation has consented to organise the event in the state.
He said over 500 athletes from India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan are expected to participate in this event.
Responding to the media queries, the Minister said that the government has framed policy for the promotion of sports and providing employment opportunities to the outstanding sportsmen. He said as a part of its policy to promote and encourage sports among youth, the government is contemplating to provide government jobs to some outstanding sportspersons who brought laurels to the state.
Among others, Director General, Youth Services and Sports SA Leharwal, Director Information, Kh. Farooq Renzushah, President, J&K Strength Lifting Association Vicky Mahajan, Vice President, J&K Strength Lifting Association MS Katoch, besides senior officers of Sports department were also present on the occasion.
