GEELANI REACTS TO DR SINGH’S STATEMENT
Srinagar, Feb 25: Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Shah Geelani has reacted sharply to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s recent statement that no quarter would be given to secessionists” in Kashmir. Geelani termed it as negation of latter’s own democratic claim.
“India has been ruling Jammu and Kashmir by dint of its might. The rulers use all undemocratic methods to continue their rule in Kashmir. They have made the state a garrison where forces have been given a freehand to deal with people,” Geelani said in a statement on Friday.
“Let rulers withdraw forces only for a single day the world will watch how people will take to the streets in lakhs,” he added.
“Whatever happened in 2010 in Kashmir was a peoples’ revolution and Prime Minister’s assertion that such revolutions will be suppressed exposes India’s hollow democratic credentials,” Geelani said.
Geelani said Dr Singh’s statement was not surprising as New Delhi, according to him, “Is only interested in the land of Kashmir and not its people.”
